Aaron Priestman, BA, MSc., established Brighton Bike Sheds following a career as a London based landscaper with a real passion for working with timber and creating vibrant outdoor spaces and structures in urban environments.
In 2005, having completed his Masters in Environmental Architecture, his interests broadened into the design and construction of low energy garden buildings using sustainable materials and construction methods.
In 2013, he moved to Brighton where he built a sedum roofed bike shed in the front garden of his terraced city centre home which not only housed the family’s four bikes but became a showpiece, uncovering a demand for attractive, sustainable and secure bicycle storage and leading to the founding of Brighton Bike Sheds.
Today, Brighton Bike Sheds operates with a small, highly skilled team specialising in sustainable construction.
Every element of the design, and construction process and use of materials found in a Brighton bike shed is carefully considered and tested with the aim of delivering a product which combines style with function, low environmental impact, lasting quality and of course security.
With the success of Brighton Bike Sheds bike storage solutions in South East England came demand from further afield in the UK and overseas. To meet this, Aaron and his team developed of a range of self-build models in a choice of size, timber and roof options which would give customers with basic DIY skills the opportunity and satisfaction of putting together their own Brighton Bike Shed.
Each Brighton Bike Shed, is hand made with care in our workshops in Ringmer and backed with a service to match. Rest assured, you’ll find the self-assembled range features the same selection of sustainable timbers, galvanised and stainless steel fixings, robust fittings and the distinctive, integrated security bar that distinguish a genuine Brighton Bike Sheds product.
Many customers have added matching bin and recycling box storage and decorative panels to create a practical, harmonised outdoor storage for their homes. These products are made to fit the space and meet individual requirements. If you’d like to explore this option, simply email Brighton Bike Sheds with a brief description of the project, approximate dimensions and notes covering any site-specific conditions including existing fixed structures, access restrictions which will need to be considered.
